The total length of the Sangu River is approximately 294 km and the entire basin area is about 3600 sq km. Taracha Khal is a tributary of the Sangu which flows through Rawangchari upazila and joins the main Sangu river on the right bank. The approximate length of the Taracha Khal is about 39.36 km. The area of Rowangchari upazila of Bandarban district is about 442.89 square km and the population is about 22,629 of which 80 percent of people's main source of income is agriculture. Due to the low water level in Rowangchari upazila, people have to suffer a lot for water. But if a rubber dam or modern hydraulic elevator dam (HED) is constructed in Taracha Canal, the water level will rise during the dry season and this will solve the water problem in the area. Vast areas on either side of the river can be cultivated. If the said rubber dam or hydraulic elevator dam is constructed, it is expected that the farmers will be able to produce more crops. If the rubber dam or hydraulic elevator dam is constructed, the water level will increase and the transportation facility of the people in remote hilly areas will be increased.
